Mountain Photography - Capture to Processing Complete Image Workflow
Read MoreI've been to the waterfall at Haifoss many times, but on my last trip there late in the summer I used some hiking apps to explore the area a lot more and find a different perspective on this incredible waterfall. In this video I look at my thoughts and considerations in the field, and in the second part of the video go over my Lightroom editing process for one of the images I captured there
Read MoreI’ll be heading to Norway at the end of the month for a week’s photography in Senja. We’ll be camping out in the mountains so packing involves taking photography gear as well as stuff for camping and eating. I’ll be trying to keep the pack as light as possible while making sure my gear covers all my needs as well as providing a comfortable sleep. Here’s a look at what I’ll be taking with me
Read MoreThis is the second video from my trip to Iceland this year. This part was filmed in the some lesser known ice caves in the Highlands, and a shipwreck on the south coast. Like my previous videos I go through the thought process behind some of the images and explain some of the locations.
Read MoreThis is the first video from my trip to Iceland this year. This was filmed in the Highlands, a part of Iceland that's difficult to access in winter. Like my previous videos I go through the thought process behind some of the images and explain some of the locations.
Read MoreWith the lockdown keeping me at home I thought I’d do this year’s video going over what I take with me on a photography trip…not just in my camera bag, but my luggage too. My philosophy is to travel light and try to refine my kit down to just taking what I’m going to need and use, and it’s constantly evolving around film making needs and finding new ways to take less stuff.
Read MoreThis is the second video from my February workshop in the Lofoten Islands. Like my previous videos I go through the thought process behind some of the images and explain some of the locations while we're behind the scenes on the workshop.
Read MoreThis is the first video from my recent Lofoten in Winter workshop. Like my previous videos from the Dolomites is used an iPhone and a DJI Osmo 3 gimbal to record behind the scenes of my recent workshop there, explaining some of the locations and outlining the thought process behind some of the images.
Read MoreThis is the second video from my recent Dolomites in Winter workshop. I thought it would be interesting to shoot some video during the workshops and then to analyse some of the images that I shot while in the field, and as I wanted to shoot as spontaneously and discretely as possible most of the footage was shot with an iPhone 11 and a DJI Osmo Mobile 3.
Read MoreEarlier this summer I spent a week or so in Iceland leading a summer workshop there with fellow photographer Andrea Livieri and we had some spectacular conditions. We had a fantastic group of six people, none of whom had visited Iceland before and spent our first evening in Reykjavik getting to know everyone over dinner.
Read MoreWhen I first got interested in landscape photography I started to come across images from Tuscany taken by Charlie Waite and it was always a place I wanted to visit. I made my first photography trip there ten years ago in 2009, returning many times over the years to lead workshops, and it never fails to inspire. This year's workshop took place, as usual, in early May when the hills are lush green and the flowers are in bloom and the changeable spring weather brings dynamic light and a good chance of mist in the mornings.
Read MoreBack in April I spent ten days in the Faroe Islands with my good friend and workshop co-leader Andrea Livieri as we scouted out some locations for our workshop there next year. The Faroes are an incredible place situated in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean midway between the Shetland Isles and Iceland, they have a little of both culturally, but the landscape is completely unique.
Read MoreI love the Dolomites. The jagged spires and peaks are my favourite landscape to photograph and every time I’m back there I find new inspiration. Photographing these same mountains blanketed in winter snow was something I’d wanted to do for a long time
Read MoreLast month I spent a week or so in the snowy Dolomites mountains and put together this video about shooting an image from capturing the scene to my complete image editing workflow. We weren’t that lucky with the conditions, either having too much wind and driving snow, or completely clear skies with no drama, but landscape photography is usually about taking the scene as you find it and working out how best to shoot and edit a scene to fit the mood of a place.
Read MoreWinter is upon us and in my latest video I look at seven tips, artistic and practical, for taking landscape photography images in winter.
Read MoreEarly in the summer I was in Iceland running a couple of workshops. The first was around Iceland’s famous ring-road but the second saw us switch to a modified Land Rover Defender and head into the depths of the Highlands.
Read MoreBack in June and July I ran a two eight day workshops in Iceland, home to some of the most dramatic and photogenic landscapes on the planet. It's always a pleasure to return to Iceland, and showing it to people on a workshop for the first time, seeing people just go "wow, what an amazing place" is one of the best parts of my job.
Read MoreLast month I spent around 3 weeks in Iceland running a couple of landscape photography workshops there. Between the two workshops we had a day off and along with a couple of the participants, I decided to take the opportunity to do a photography flight above the river deltas and highlands. It's something I've wanted to do for a couple of years and it really didn't disappoint.
Read MoreEarlier this month I was one of the co-leaders on the Light Explorers' Tuscany In Spring workshop. We spent five days at a fantastic hotel just outside San Quirico d'Orcia with an awesome group of people shooting amongst the gorgeous rolling hills of Tuscany
Read MorePretty soon into our trip to Lofoten we realized the sunrises were oftern something special there. The high latitude means that the sun rises quite slowly above the ocean casting it’s light almost horizontally onto the snowy peaks and bouncing off the bottom of any clouds. It really is wonderful.
