AN INTRODUCTION TO CAPTURE ONE PRO FOR LIGHTROOM USERS

I started using Capture One about 9 months ago and in that time it's slowly replaced Lightroom as my main image editor. Since I’ve used it in some of my workflow videos it’s something that I’ve received a lot go questions about so I’ve decide to put together this overview of Capture One looking at my own experience as a landscape photography and explaining a few tips that I’ve found made the learning curve a little easier, as well as a few tips that I use for post processing my images.

LANDSCAPE PHOTOGRAPHY - EXPECTATION & REALITY

Whenever we go anywhere to take landscape images, it's pretty much impossible to avoid expectation. We have certain expectations of what a place will be like and what kind of image we'll shoot, but often these expectations affect our appreciation of a scene and hinder our ability to create images there.

WHAT'S IN MY CAMERA BAG - LANDSCAPE PHOTOGRAPHY TRIP

This is a short video going over what I carry in my camera bag on a typical photography trip. My philosophy is to travel light and try to refine my kit down to just taking what I’m going to need and use. Since I made my “Packing for a photography Trip” last year I’ve changed what I carry with my and also changed my backpack, and that video also went into detail about clothing and all the stuff I would pack for a winter trip.

FUJiFILM X-T30 - A PRACTICAL COMPARISON WITH THE X-T3 & X-T20

I’ve been using the Fuji X-T30 for about a month alongside my X-T3 and replacing my X-T20, which was my previous back up camera. This isn’t an in-depth review of all the cameras details and features or a technical break down image quality or a comparison with other cameras. Instead, it’s an overview of how good I feel the X-T30 is for shooting landscapes, and how it compares with the X-T3 and X-T20.

MAKING THE MOST OF OVERCAST WEATHER - CAPTURE TO PROCESSING

I love colourful sunrises and sunsets with beautiful warm golden light illuminating the landscape, but when you’ve dragged yourself out of bed in the dark and up a mountain and the weather doesn’t give you what you want, there’s still the possibility to capture stark moody landscapes.

MOUNTAIN PHOTOGRAPHY - CAPTURE TO EDITING

Last month I spent a week or so in the snowy Dolomites mountains and put together this video about shooting an image from capturing the scene to my complete image editing workflow. We weren’t that lucky with the conditions, either having too much wind and driving snow, or completely clear skies with no drama, but landscape photography is usually about taking the scene as you find it and working out how best to shoot and edit a scene to fit the mood of a place.

FUJIFILM GFX 50R - A LANDSCAPE PHOTOGRAPHER'S REVIEW

I got the chance to spend two weeks in shooting in the Dolomites with the Fujifilm GFX 50R earlier this month, and here's a video review I put together. Like all my reviews it's in no way technical or focused on specs or comparisons, but instead based on my experiences shooting with the camera and working with it in the field.

FUJIFILM XF 8-16MM F2.8 - A PRACTICAL REVIEW

If like me, you love shooting wide angle landscapes then the Fuji XF8-16 f2.8 lens with weather sealing has probably been on your radar since it first appeared on the Fuji roadmap last year.  I’ve been happily using the 10-24mm since I switched to Fuji about three and a half years ago, it’s my most used lens by a long way, so I’ve been wanting to have a look at this lens for while now and see if it can replace the 10-24mm as my go-to wide angle zoom.

THOUGHTS ON WHY WE DO LANDSCAPE PHOTOGRAPHY & TAKING MORE SATISFYING IMAGES

The ideas in this video have been buzzing around my head for a while now and this is an attempt to try to identify what it is that compels us to head out into the landscape to make images, and whether an understanding of that can help us to take better photos...or at least images we’re more satisfied with.

2 ESSENTIAL LENSES FOR LANDSCAPE PHOTOGRAPHY

How many lenses do you really need for landscape photography? I really believe that two lenses is enough for the vast majority of landscape photography, and that that, the less gear we haul up a mountain with us, the lighter we travel, the clearer our mind is to make images when we get to our destination.

AERIAL PHOTOGRAPHY IN ICELAND

Last month I spent around 3 weeks in Iceland running a couple of landscape photography workshops there.  Between the two workshops we had a day off and along with a couple of the participants, I decided to take the opportunity to do a photography flight above the river deltas and highlands.  It's something I've wanted to do for a couple of years and it really didn't disappoint.

FUJIFILM X-H1 REVIEW - A PRACTICAL COMPARISON WITH THE X-T2

I borrowed the Fujifilm X-H1 last month and spent a week shooting with it in Tuscany comparing it with the X-T2, my usual landscape camera.
